Music Composition Projects

Music made with the goal to accompany and serve other media. I use Logic Pro X with both synth and live recorded instruments.

Dune

A personal exercise, reading the first four chapters of Dune, by Frank Herbert, and composing a track for each. (Note: this exercise was completed in 2021, before the Dune movies came out.)

Space Truckin’

Tracks composed for the accompaniment of an original iPhone game, Space Truckin’, which won accolades at the 2021 UVM CS Fair. Types of tracks include Title Theme Music, Idle Music, and Combat Themes.

Miscellaneous Instrumental Music

I like to dabble, create, and explore in many styles and moods of music. Explorations of atmosphere, instrumentation, or tracks made for games that just did not complete development live here.

SoundCloud Playlist of All Songs

While I think this web portfolio communicates best the context and goals of every piece of music in it, I recognize that it may not be the most convenient for prolonged listening. So, I made this playlist!

Dark Space

Dark, minimalist, electric-piano and synth-choir centric song used during open exploration.

Space Jazz*

Soft, contemplative, space-themed take on How High The Moon (Morgan Lewis) used during open exploration.

Combat Stings

Two short musical stings based on the same musical motif, used when special encounters with enemies occur in-game.

Tension*

Intense and high-energy piano, drum, and synth song used during open exploration and combat.

Space Mall

Bright upbeat track used when the player character enters a Space Station to shop for upgrades, repair their ship, warp to other systems, and trade.

Space Boys: Adventure Across Time

A small space-themed school project video game written in C++, whose life did not extend beyond the classroom. I composed three tracks for it as a proof of concept.

Title Medley
Free Roam
Warp Screen*

Spook*

A proof-of-concept track for the soundtrack of a fast-paced 2D haunted house exploration game that never made it to production. This track would play as the player character runs through the rooms of the house, avoiding ghosts and collecting secrets.

Rise*

A piece of music featuring exclusively electric guitars. The purpose of this piece has been lost to time, but I like to include it because it’s a showcase of a side of my musicality that hasn’t yet been explored in this portfolio.

Witching Hour

An exploration of atmosphere; Witching Hour is meant to do what it says on the tin, evoking the feeling of foreboding and solitude you can only find in the dark, small hours of the night.

Western Guitar

An exploration of both use of recorded guitar playing (mine) in a soundtrack context, and an attempt at creating the atmosphere of a hypothetical western video game.

Rising Tensions*
Duel

ASCII Adventure

A selection of tracks from the soundtrack for a lo-fi ascii-art based text adventure game. The goal from the soundtrack was for short, simple, loopable tracks evocative of a retro era of gaming.

Boss Battle*
